The surface needs to be dust-free and slightly warm — the vinyl bonds better above 60°F / 15°C.

Honestly — it depends on the texture depth. Light "orange peel" texture (very common in US homes) usually works fine with smaller decals and firm pressure during application. Heavy textures (popcorn, stucco, knockdown) don't work — the vinyl can't make full contact with the surface, leading to peeling within days. If you can see bumps under the tape, the wall is likely too textured.
