Meet Yuri Alekseyevich Gagarin, was Soviet pilot and cosmonaut who became the first human to journey into outer space, to be exact, the same day as today but in 1961, a historic event paving the way for space exploration for the benefit of all humanity.

The day also aims to promote aspirations to explore and maintain outer space for peaceful purposes.
